Unione: A Creative Handwritten Font for Modern Marketing Campaigns

Choosing the Right Font for a Product Launch Series

I was designing a four-part Instagram carousel series for a client’s new wellness app launch. The goal was to create visual consistency across preview posts, a YouTube trailer thumbnail, and Pinterest pins that would stand out in fast-scrolling feeds. I needed a font that felt personal but professional—something that balanced creativity with clarity. That’s when I reached for Unione.

Unione is a super cute, clean handwriting font with a minimalist personality. It’s part of the Freebies category, which makes it instantly appealing for content creators and small brands working on tight budgets. But don’t let the “free” label fool you—this font holds its own in a professional design context when used strategically.

Visual Style and Campaign Personality

Unione’s charm lies in its soft curves and light strokes, which give it a friendly and approachable tone. It’s not overly whimsical like some script fonts can be, which makes it more versatile for modern digital marketing. It reads as handwritten but not messy, creative but not chaotic.

In the wellness app campaign, I used Unione for the main headlines in each carousel slide. The font helped reinforce the brand’s tone—gentle, human-centered, and intuitive. It worked especially well in quote graphics and subheadings where the goal was to connect emotionally rather than convey dense information.

Where Unione Shines in Digital Content

This font performs best in short, high-impact text elements. Here are a few campaign use cases where Unione delivered strong visual appeal:

Unione is best suited for display use—think headlines, callouts, and short labels. It’s not ideal for body copy or long paragraphs, especially on mobile screens where clarity and spacing matter most.

Readability and Screen Performance

One of the biggest concerns when using a handwritten font like Unione is readability on small screens. I tested it across mobile previews, dark and light backgrounds, and image overlays. Here’s what I found:

  • Mobile Previews – Works best at larger sizes (24px and up). Avoid using it for captions or secondary text.
  • Dark Backgrounds – Surprisingly effective with a white or light stroke variation for contrast.
  • Image Overlays – Pair with a semi-transparent background or text stroke to ensure legibility.

If you’re using Unione in fast-scrolling content like Instagram Reels or TikTok videos, keep the message short and give it breathing room around other design elements.

When to Pair It with Other Fonts

Unione shines brightest when paired with a clean, modern sans serif or a minimal serif font. For the wellness campaign, I paired it with a light-weight sans like Montserrat for body text and supporting captions. The contrast between the playful headline and the neutral subtext created a balanced, professional look.

Here are a few pairing suggestions based on campaign type:

  1. Social Media Graphics – Unione + Open Sans or Lato
  2. Email Headers – Unione + Roboto or Inter
  3. Branded Templates – Unione + Playfair Display or Merriweather

This kind of font pairing helps maintain a cohesive brand identity while ensuring readability and visual hierarchy.

Practical Design and Licensing Notes

Before using Unione in a commercial campaign, always check the included styles, ligatures, alternate characters, and licensing terms. In this case, Unione came with basic uppercase and lowercase sets, a few stylistic alternates, and standard multilingual support.

It’s a single-weight font, so you’ll need to rely on spacing, color, and layout to create visual contrast. For brand templates or merchandise, consider whether the font’s character set and licensing allow for extended use.

As with any free font, it’s a good idea to test it across platforms—especially if you're exporting to web formats or embedding in digital products. I had no issues using Unione in Canva, Photoshop, and Figma, but always double-check file formats and export settings.
