Exquisite: A Retro Script Font That Elevates Small Business Branding

When I opened my little candle shop last year, I focused on the scent, the wax, the jars—but I didn’t think much about the label. I used a generic font that came with my design software. It wasn’t until a customer asked, “Is this a local brand or something mass-produced?” that I realized my typography was sending the wrong message. That’s when I discovered Exquisite, a retro handwritten script font that transformed how my brand looked—and how customers perceived it.

Exquisite has a soft, rounded script style that feels both nostalgic and fresh. It’s whimsical without being childish, and elegant without feeling stiff. It’s the kind of font that makes your packaging, logo, or social media post feel like it was created with care and intention. Whether you're labeling a candle jar, printing a thank-you card, or designing a menu for your café, this font adds a human touch that generic typefaces can’t match.

I first used Exquisite for my candle labels. I swapped out the standard sans serif for Exquisite’s flowing script on the front label. Suddenly, the product felt more artisanal, more personal. Customers started commenting on the packaging before they even smelled the candle. That’s the power of thoughtful typography—it shapes perception before the product even speaks for itself.

This font works especially well for short phrases, headlines, and logos. It’s a display font at heart, best used for titles or accents rather than long paragraphs. If you’re designing a bakery box, a skincare label, or a boutique tag, Exquisite adds a sense of warmth and authenticity. It pairs beautifully with clean sans serif fonts for body text, creating a balance between personality and readability.

One of the biggest branding mistakes small businesses make is inconsistency. One day the logo looks one way, the packaging another, and the Instagram post something else entirely. Typography plays a huge role in visual consistency. By using Exquisite across all my brand materials—business cards, thank-you notes, and even digital ads—I created a cohesive look that customers began to recognize. That recognition built trust, and trust led to repeat sales.

When choosing a font like Exquisite, it’s important to think about where and how it will be used. For printed packaging, legibility at small sizes matters. For social media thumbnails, the font needs to be bold enough to read quickly. Exquisite holds up well in both scenarios, especially when used for short phrases or titles. I found that using it in slightly larger sizes on product tags and smaller but bolder weights on digital graphics gave me the best results.

Typography is more than just letters on a page—it’s part of your brand voice. A sharp, modern sans serif might say “tech startup,” while a rough, chalky font could suggest a local café. Exquisite says, “handmade, heartfelt, and intentional.” Whether you're a florist designing gift tags or a life coach building a website, this font adds a sense of warmth and approachability that resonates with people.

For font pairing ideas, I often go with a minimalist sans serif like Montserrat or Lato for supporting text. This contrast gives the design a modern edge while letting Exquisite shine as the star. If I want a more vintage feel, I pair it with a classic serif font for a timeless look. The key is to balance its expressive nature with something clean and structured.

Before using Exquisite in your designs, always check the licensing. Many premium fonts, including this one, come with commercial use rights, which means you can safely use them in packaging, merchandise, and client work. Also, make sure to install all available styles, ligatures, and alternate characters to get the most out of the font’s character and flexibility.

As a small business owner, I used to think branding was all about the logo or the color palette. But typography tells its own story. Exquisite helped me create a more polished, memorable brand without a big budget or a graphic designer. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the smallest design choices—like the right font—can make the biggest impact.
